Warning of torrential rains continues in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh A warning of stormy rains has been issued in Saudi Arabia. According to Arab News, Saudi Arabia's Civil Defense has urged the public to exercise caution as it has warned of the possibility of thunderstorms in some parts of the kingdom until Friday and Monday, including Hail, Madinah, Eastern Province, The Northern Frontier Region and parts of Makkah will be affected by moderate to heavy rains and strong winds, which may cause storm surges affecting parts of Tabuk, Al-Jawf and Makkah.

The Saudi Civil Defense has also warned that during the same period, clouds causing thunderstorms due to active winds will hit the areas of Tabuk, Riyadh, Qasim, Asir, Jazan and Al Bahah, the Directorate said. It has advised to stay away from places where torrents are collected and follow the instructions announced by various media and social networking sites, while being cautious against possible threats.

Recently, Saudi Arabia's National Center for Meteorology tested artificial rain in Taif, Baha and Abha, as these three areas needed more than normal rainfall, which was met by artificial rain technology at specific locations. Through seeding, 84 flights of 4 special aircrafts were conducted in Taif, Baha and Abha, with a duration of 316 hours.

It is known that Saudi Arabia needs 24 billion cubic meters of water annually, but the annual rainfall is less than 100 mm, which makes the kingdom one of the driest countries in the world due to artificial rain. The first experiment was contracted with the American University of Wyoming and carried out in 1990. However, the first artificial rain in the kingdom fell during April 2022 in Riyadh, Qasim and Hail.

Dr Ayman Ghulam, executive chairman of the National Center of Meteorology, has said that preparations are being made for artificial rain in many areas of the country, foreign experts will participate in this program of artificial rain, and clouds will be created in Riyadh that will help to protect the environment. Rain will be poured, efforts are underway to increase the proportion of rainfall from 5% to 20% in some areas of the country, complete logistics facilities are being provided to some airports on the occasion of artificial rain in certain areas, while artificial rain The services of foreign experts will be taken to fully master the system and transfer the required technology to Saudi Arabia.
